Year one: The structure of the innate mind
The first year of the project (2001-2002) was primarily concerned with the fundamental architecture of the mind. It addressed such questions as: what capacities, processes, representations, biases, and connections are innate? How do these innate elements feed into a story about the development of our mature cognitive capacities? Which of these elements are shared with other members of the animal kingdom?
While these issues are related to traditional philosophical concerns dating back at least to Plato, in recent years philosophers, psychologists, ethologists and others have increasingly been drawing on one another's resources to piece together a picture of the structure of the innate mind and its developmental trajectory.
The volume based on year one of the project was published in 2005 by Oxford University Press.
